History tells us that right from the Stone Age it was woman's desire to adorn herself with ornaments of all kinds to enhance her beauty. Primitive men and women wore jewelry made from shells, pebbles, ivory, metals, and all sorts of materials they could think of. But as the human civilization advanced they found precious and semi-precious stones and discovered gold as a precious metal. From the Seabed, they chanced upon finding oysters growing pearls inside their bodies.

Precious or semi-precious stones didn't always sparkle on their own. As the modern techniques developed, rough diamonds were cut and polished to give brilliance. So were the other precious and semi-precious stones. New harvesting techniques also helped to grow cultured pearls as lustrous as natural pearls, and almost all the pearls sold in the market around the world are cultured pearls now. Because of their natural lustrous appeal pearls have always been sought after by women to enhance their beauty with one of the nature's best bounty.

Many types of jewelry made from diamonds, semi-precious stones, gold, platinum or pearls now give women a much wider choice to choose from. Since each type of jewelry is unique in its own because of its inherent value, quality, appearance and style, the choice entirely lies upon each individual woman depending upon fashion, design and style on one hand and her own personal taste and preferences on the other plus the overall affordability.
